Empowering Rural Health: AHA Presents Proposals to Improve Access to Quality Care

Hearing held by the Senate Finance Committee delves into issues facing rural health care

The American Hospital Association (AHA) recently presented a set of ideas aimed at improving rural health care to the Senate Finance Committee during a hearing titled “Rural Health Care: Supporting Lives and Improving Communities” scheduled for May 16. These proposals touch on various areas such as flexible payment options, ensuring fair and timely reimbursement, strengthening the workforce, and improving maternal health.

One of the main focus areas during the hearing was the availability of obstetric services and increasing the allocation of medical residency slots to rural hospitals. Jeremy P. Davis, MHA, who serves as the president and CEO of Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande, Ore. represented the AHA and joined other healthcare leaders and policy researchers in testifying about these important issues.

The hearing served as a platform for an in-depth discussion on the challenges faced by rural health care facilities and the need for innovative solutions to address these issues.
