Empowering Diverse Entrepreneurs: MVYRadio Grants a Lifeline to Underserved Business Owners

MVYRadio Awards Grants to Businesses Promoting Diversity Initiatives

Recently, MVYRadio in West Tisbury awarded Business Diversity Initiative grants to Gillian Inspired Designs of East Sandwich and Sun and the Moon Consignment of Cotuit. These grants provide airtime for business owners from traditionally underserved backgrounds to share their stories through 60, 15-second underwriting messages on MVYRadio. Each grant is valued at $1,200, with MVYRadio having donated $40,200 worth of airtime to this program since 2021.

The latest recipients of these grants are Gillian Inspired Designs, a woman-owned business specializing in jewelry design and crafting for over 15 years, and Sun and the Moon Consignment, a woman-owned business offering home décor, furniture, and women’s clothing. Through this initiative, MVYRadio aims to support businesses owned by women, minority communities, veterans, disabled individuals, and the LGBTQIA+ community.

MV Barkery in Vineyard Haven is another recipient of the grant this quarter. This woman- and disability community member-owned business creates and sells homemade dog treats on the Island. Tristan Israel, MVYRadio board member and co-chair of its equity and inclusion action group expressed gratitude for the opportunity to support locally owned businesses that may not be familiar with the station.

Applications for the next round of Business Diversity Initiative grants are currently open with a deadline of June 30th. Grant recipients will be announced in early July. More information about the program can be found on mvyradio.org/diversity. Through these grants
