Embracing Freedom: How the Tennessee Titans are Changing the Culture of Football through Player Empowerment

Titans’ Chig Okonkwo describes a “more relaxed” and “free” environment

In an interview with a journalist, tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo shared his observations on the changes between previous seasons and this one. According to Okonkwo, there is a relaxed and free atmosphere among players after the second open session of OTAs. He stated that players are more comfortable in the locker room and on the field, allowing them to be themselves without feeling tense or stressed out.

Okonkwo attributed this change in culture to a new focus on player autonomy and ownership. Players are encouraged to express themselves freely, which has contributed to a more relaxed and open environment within the team. This shift may be seen as a departure from the previous coaching style under Mike Vrabel, who was supportive of players but did not emphasize self-expression as much.

Despite this change, players like Okonkwo remain optimistic about the upcoming season. They believe that this newfound freedom will positively impact their performance on the field. Overall, it seems that Tennessee Titans have embraced a new culture that values player expression and empowerment, leading to a more relaxed and free atmosphere among the team.
