Elon Musk Showcases Starlink Satellite Internet in Indonesia, Discusses Desalination and EV Technology

Elon Musk Provides Key Insights at World Water Forum in Indonesia

Elon Musk recently made a trip to Indonesia to showcase SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet. During his speech at the World Water Forum, Musk emphasized the importance of solving the global water crisis through advancements in water desalination technology and its efficiency. He also highlighted the significance of energy and transport in addressing the crisis.

Musk discussed how desalination and water transportation are crucial factors in tackling the water crisis and expressed his belief that the cost of desalination will continue to decrease significantly, similar to what has been observed in the solar industry. He fielded questions about solutions and research and development in the desalination sector during his speech.

Indonesian officials have shown interest in Musk’s companies, with SpaceX launching Starlink in the country. While there were discussions about potentially establishing an electric vehicle (EV) plant, Musk’s main focus during his visit was on debuting Starlink. However, Indonesian President Joko Widodo has met with Musk several times and expressed a desire to collaborate on projects like building an EV battery plant and sourcing nickel in the country.

Despite focusing on Starlink’s debut, there are ongoing discussions about the possibility of Musk establishing a cathode plant in Indonesia. Coordinating minister of investment Luhut Pandjaitan mentioned that Musk is considering building an EV battery plant, which could lead to potential future collaborations between Musk’s companies and Indonesia.
