Elon Musk Calls OpenAI’s GPT-4o Demo ‘Cringe-worthy’, Launches Own AI Chatbot in Response

Elon Musk Expresses Discomfort Over OpenAI’s GPT-4o Unveiling

Elon Musk has recently expressed his disappointment with OpenAI’s latest AI model, GPT-4o, calling the demo “cringe-worthy.” The billionaire, who co-founded OpenAI but left the company in 2018, has been critical of the organization’s work. OpenAI’s new model was presented with enhanced voice and vision capabilities, functioning as a digital assistant for users to interact with both verbally and visually.

The debut of the GPT-4o model drew comparisons to the movie “Her,” in which an artificially intelligent being serves as a love interest. Musk left comments on various posts mocking the new update, implying that OpenAI had turned the AI model into an AI girlfriend. The ongoing spat between Musk and OpenAI stems from his criticisms of the company’s releases, including what he perceives as a left-leaning bias in ChatGPT.

In addition to his negative views on OpenAI’s work, Musk has launched his own rival AI company, xAI, and an AI-powered chatbot to compete with ChatGPT. Despite the public criticism, Musk mentioned in a comment that his own AI chatbot, Grok, was in line for a “major upgrade” soon.

Representatives for OpenAI and Musk did not respond to requests for comment on the matter. It is worth noting that Axel Springer, Business Insider’s parent company, has a global deal in place with OpenAI to train its AI models using the media brand’s reporting.
