Ellsworth, Maine is set to participate in Jane’s Walk once again this year, joining over 500 cities worldwide in the event. This will be the third time that Ellsworth has taken part in this global celebration of community building.
Started in Toronto in 2006 to honor the late writer and activist, Jane Jacobs, Jane’s Walk aims to inspire people to explore their communities and develop a sense of pride for where they live and work. In Ellsworth, two walks are taking place on Saturday – one focusing on nature and the other centered around historical Ellsworth.
The first walk, which begins at 10:00 a.m., will start at the River Walk North trail head behind the Ellsworth Public Library. The second walk, which takes place at 3:00 p.m., will start at the Old Burial Grounds on State Street.
Heart of Ellsworth has partnered with GrowSmart Maine and the Ellsworth Historical Society to organize these walks. The goal is to encourage people to connect with their community and take pride in their surroundings.
