Electrogenic’s DeLorean DMC-12 Conversion Kit: Reimagining Classic Cars for a Modern World

The iconic DeLorean returns after four decades with an electric twist

Electrogenic, a British company known for their conversion kits that turn classic cars into electric vehicles, recently released a model based on the iconic DeLorean DMC-12. The DeLorean DMC-12, famously recognized from the film series Back to the Future, has not been produced in over 40 years but continues to be admired as a legendary car.

The conversion kit features a 160 kW electric motor that significantly improves the acceleration of the DeLorean DMC-12, reducing the time it takes to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h from 10 seconds to just 5 seconds. The conversion process is non-invasive and requires no cutting or modification of the chassis of the car. It’s a simple “plug and play” process that can be easily reversed if the owner decides to switch back to gasoline power in the future. The addition of new technologies only adds about 40 kilograms to the original weight of the vehicle.

The cost of the conversion kit along with installation ranges between €77,000 and €100,000. However, it’s important to note that connecting an Electrogenic-converted DeLorean to lightning, as depicted in the movie, is not advisable due to safety concerns. Electrogenic’s innovative approach to classic car conversions has attracted attention in the automotive industry.

Apart from their DeLorean DMC-12 conversion kit, Electrogenic offers various services and products for classic car enthusiasts looking to transition to electric power. Their focus on preserving the nostalgia of classic cars while incorporating modern technology has made them a standout company in the electric vehicle conversion market.
