EKU Tennis Makes History as they Enter UTR Sports NIT Championship for the First Time

First-Ever UTR Sports NIT Championship Appearance for EKU Men’s Tennis Team

The Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis team is set to make history as they participate in the UTR Sports NIT Championship for the first time. After a successful season that saw them secure 20 wins and reach the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, the team will compete in their first national postseason tournament since 2015.

The championship will be held at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. from May 5-8, with matches available for viewing on Amazon Prime Video. The exact opponent for the quarterfinals on May 5 is yet to be determined, but EKU will face off against teams such as Liberty, North Alabama, Northwestern, Pacific, Santa Carla, St. Louis, and Tulsa.

EKU’s season was marked by several milestones. They achieved a 16-win increase from the previous season, the largest in program history. The Colonels also secured their first ITA team ranking at No. 74 and their first win against a ranked opponent with a 5-2 victory over No. 68 Stetson. Evzen Holis was recognized with a First Team All-ASUN selection for his strong performance in singles matches.

This marks EKU’s fifth national postseason tournament in program history, with four NCAA Tournament appearances. Although their season ended at the ASUN Conference Championship with a 4-0 loss to Stetson, this experience has prepared them well for their next step up to the national stage of the UTR Sports NIT Championship.
