Egyptian Authorities Deny Rafah Crossing Movement Amidst Worsening Humanitarian Conditions in Gaza City

Egyptian authorities have denied reports that they have approved the movement of the Rafah crossing or the construction of a new crossing near Kerem Abu Salem. According to a high-ranking source, Egypt has not allowed any Israeli supervision of the Rafah port and remains committed to completely withdrawing the Israeli army from the Palestinian side of it. The source emphasized that this closure has led to worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza City and the northern Gaza Strip, including food scarcity and limited aid supplies.

Egyptian forces have not been involved in the situation in Gaza after the ongoing military operation, as they believe it is a matter for Palestinians alone. The source stated that Egypt had previously communicated to all parties that a permanent ceasefire agreement must involve the exchange of detainees and prisoners, as well as an end to military operations in Gaza. However, Egyptian authorities have maintained a firm stance on not reopening the Rafah crossing until Israeli control over the Palestinian side of it is removed.

The continued closure of crossings poses a threat of famine in Gaza City and the northern Gaza Strip due to restrictions on food, water, medicine, and fuel supplies. The Israeli army has been carrying out intense bombardment in Gaza since October 7, with numerous air, land, sea raids and violent attacks against Palestinian civilians resulting in significant casualties and massive destruction of infrastructure. This catastrophe highlights how important it is for international aid organizations to be able to reach those who need it most during times of crisis.
