Eagles Finalize Deals with Draft Picks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, Boosting Defensive Backfield

Eagles ink deal with first-round selection Quinyon Mitchell

The Eagles wrapped up their mandatory minicamp on Thursday, also finalizing the signings of their draft picks. Their top pick from April, cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, was the last to agree to a deal. Mitchell signed a four-year contract with the team, with an option for a fifth season. During his time at Toledo, Mitchell broke up 38 passes and had six interceptions, including a four-interception game during the 2022 season.

The Eagles also added Cooper DeJean in the second round of the draft. Both rookies will compete for playing time in the secondary alongside veterans Darius Slay, Avonte Maddox, and James Bradberry. The Eagles have high hopes for their young defensive backs and hope they can make an immediate impact on the field. With training camp and preseason just around the corner, competition for starting spots will be fierce as the Eagles look to solidify their defensive backfield for the upcoming season.

The Eagles’ defense has been a weakness in recent years, but with the addition of Mitchell and DeJean to their secondary lineup, they are hoping to turn things around. Both players bring impressive skills and experience to the table, which could make them valuable assets on the field.

Mitchell’s ability to break up passes and intercept balls is particularly noteworthy. He has already shown that he can make big plays under pressure, which could help him stand out in a crowded secondary position.

DeJean has also impressed scouts with his athleticism and coverage skills. While he may not have as much experience as some other rookies in this class, his potential is still very high.

Overall, these two young players could help breathe new life into Philadelphia’s defense if they can live up to expectations during training camp and beyond. With talented veterans like Slay and Maddox leading by example, there is no doubt that this team has what it takes to succeed in 2023.
