Duke Softball Makes History in Loss to Oklahoma in Women’s College World Series

Sal’s sister Frankie Frelick hits a home run for Duke in the college World Series.

The Oklahoma University softball team, led by head coach Patty Gasso, has once again reached the Women’s College World Series. Despite losing their opening game to Duke 5-4, they bounced back with a dominating 9-1 win. Meanwhile, Duke will now face Alabama in an elimination game.

During the game, Duke’s Frankie Frelick made history by hitting her first home run in Women’s College World Series history. Although her team ultimately fell to Oklahoma, Frelick has been a standout performer for her team throughout the postseason. With three home runs and an impressive batting average of .278 this season, she has been a key player for Duke’s success.

Duke’s Super Regional level victory over Missouri set the stage for their impressive run in the World Series. Brianna Turang, sister of Brewers player Brice Turang, was also a part of that winning team. With a strong tradition of excellence in softball, both Duke and Oklahoma are looking to make their mark on the national stage and continue building on their legacies.
