Dubois vs Hrgovic: Battle for Interim IBF Title in Riyadh; Usyk’s Vacation Request

Dubois-Hrgovic approved for interim IBF title fight

In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Londoner Daniel Dubois will face Filip Hrgovic in a heavyweight bout that could result in the interim IBF title. The 26-year-old Dubois has 19 stoppages in his 20 wins and two defeats, while Croatia’s Hrgovic is the number one ranked IBF fighter with a perfect record of 17 wins, including 14 knockouts.

Usyk, who holds all four world titles, has requested an exemption from the IBF to fight Fury instead of his mandatory challenger. The IBF has not set a timeline for a decision on Usyk’s request, but it is not yet fully confirmed that Dubois and Hrgovic will fight for the interim title. If sanctioned, the winner will be elevated to champion if Usyk vacates the belt.

There were rumors about Usyk vacating before the event, but it seems like he will retain his undisputed title for now. Promoter Eddie Hearn has mentioned the possibility of the winner facing Anthony Joshua for a vacant IBF world title at Wembley Stadium in September. Dubois has won 20 fights with two defeats, while Hrgovic has a perfect record of 17 wins, with 14 coming inside the distance.
