Downtown Atlanta Water Breaks Lead to City-Wide Issues; Hospitals, Jails, and Shelters Among Affected Establishments

Water service disrupted in Downtown Atlanta leads to business closings and water boil advisory

The water main breaks in downtown Atlanta caused a city-wide water issue on Saturday, leading to the closure of businesses and attractions. Two downtown hospitals, a city jail, a county jail, and local shelters were among the establishments affected by the water outages and low pressure. Despite some establishments like the Georgia Aquarium remaining closed due to the ongoing water problems, efforts were being made to restore service from Friday morning onwards.

The boil water advisory issued by the Atlanta Department of Watershed Management prompted the public to conserve water to help rebuild the system’s pressure. The department assured the public that the entire City Government was mobilized to address the situation, though their website was down and social media updates had not been provided since Friday night.

Rapper Megan Thee Stallion’s concert was rescheduled to Sunday due to the water issues, but her performance at the State Farm Arena on Saturday was still scheduled to proceed. While disappointed by the situation, she expressed her support for the residents who were affected by the water outage and followed the Mayor’s advice.
