In the Gulf of Mexico, a low-pressure system with the potential to develop into a hurricane will move over the coasts of Tamaulipas in northeastern Mexico. The circulation of this system interacting with the monsoon trough will cause occasional heavy rains in Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, and Veracruz, as well as intense occasional rains in Coahuila. Strong to very strong winds are also expected with the possibility of waterspouts along the coasts of Tamaulipas and Veracruz.
Meanwhile, a low-pressure channel that spans across northern Mexico is forecasted to bring heavy occasional rains to Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Querétaro, Hidalgo, and Puebla. Very heavy rains are expected in Sonora, Guanajuato, State of Mexico, Mexico City, Morelos, and Guerrero. Showers are also expected in Baja California and Baja California Sur accompanied by thunderstorms and possibly hail. The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued warnings for these areas as strong to very strong winds will affect regions in northwest Mexico’s tablelands and central regions.
The SMN advises caution due to a monsoon trough near the Pacific coast that combined with a low-pressure channel and a tropical wave near Yucatan Peninsula will result in heavy rainfall on Yucatan Peninsula’s southeastern region. It is essential for residents to stay informed about potential severe weather events while adhering to Civil Protection recommendations.
Earlier this year’s passage of Tropical Storm Alberto resulted in torrential rains throughout various parts of Mexico resulting in loss of life. As such it is crucial for individuals living in these areas to be prepared for severe weather conditions that could lead to flooding or landslides.
In summary: during Sunday night through early Monday morning low pressure system moving over Tamaulipas’ northeast coast may cause cyclonic development leading to occasional torrential rains in Nuevo León and others nearby cities; meanwhile a low-pressure channel extending over northern Mexico will bring intense occasional rains across much of central and northern Mexico. The SMN advises caution as potential downpours could result from an interaction between monsoon trough near Pacific coastline with new tropical wave near Yucatan Peninsula resulting heavy rainfall on southeastern region
