Dollar General Store Closes in Indiana Due to Sewage Backup and Health Hazard

Georgetown Dollar General Shuts Down Due to Urgent Health Risk from Sewage Backup in Store

In Fort Wayne, Indiana, the Dollar General store located at Georgetown Square was forced to shut down after a failed health inspection by the Allen County Department of Health on June 3. The reason for the closure was due to a sewage backup at the location on East State Blvd. During the inspection, the health inspector discovered that the restroom had flushing issues, causing sewage to back up onto the sales floor.

The report stated that the sewage flooded into aisles mainly containing pet food, single-use items, and cleaning supplies. Fortunately, no products were deemed contaminated. The inspector also noted human waste on the floors and even spotted a live cockroach in the sewage. Due to these unsanitary conditions, the manager was informed that the facility posed an “imminent health hazard” and had to shut down immediately.

This incident is not new to Dollar General stores as a similar issue occurred back in March at another location. Once the problem is resolved, the store will need to undergo proper disinfection before requesting a follow-up inspection to reopen. As of now, no follow-up inspection has been scheduled.

The Dollar General manager was made aware of the urgent need for closure due to the health hazard as stated in
