Dodgers Lose Key Players Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Mookie Betts, but Look Towards Upcoming Rehab Starts

Dodgers Pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto sidelined with strained rotator cuff following $325M contract signing, out indefinitely

The Los Angeles Dodgers suffered two significant losses on Sunday, with rookie pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto and All-Star infielder Mookie Betts both being placed on the 15-day injured list.

Yamamoto left Saturday’s game against the Kansas City Royals after pitching two innings, citing triceps tightness to the coaching staff. He is set to undergo further testing to assess the extent of his injury, but it is not clear when he will return. Despite this setback, Yamamoto has had an impressive season so far, with a 2.92 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 74 innings pitched in his first season in Major League Baseball.

Betts’ return timeline is also uncertain after he fractured his wrist during Sunday’s game against the Royals. This sets back the Dodgers’ hopes of winning the NL West title outright as they now hold off the second-place San Diego Padres by just seven games with a record of 43-29.

The Dodgers are looking forward to getting some help back soon as right-handed pitcher Bobby Miller is expected to return from the injured list to start against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday. In addition, former Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw is expected to begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga as he works his way back from offseason shoulder surgery that has kept him out for the entire season.
