On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Virginia Institute of Marine Science will be hosting its annual Marine Science Day open house event at their Gloucester Point campus. This free and open-to-the-public event will offer visitors an insider’s look at the research and advisory services provided by VIMS.
Each year, VIMS invites the public to participate in exhibits, children’s activities, seining in the York River, tours, seafood cooking demonstrations, mini-lectures, and more. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with scientists and students about their work in marine science.
A highlight of Marine Science Day is the Marine Life Costume Contest, where individuals of all ages are invited to dress up in original marine plant or animal costumes. Awards will be given for the most original plant or animal costume as well as the most creative use of materials.
