Dr. Zhijie “Jason” Liu, an associate professor in the Department of Molecular Medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio), has recently received a $960,000 grant from the American Cancer Society. The grant aims to support his research into the mechanisms of endocrine resistance in breast cancer and the role of estrogen receptor-bound enhancers.
Dr. Liu joined UT Health San Antonio in 2016 with a CPRIT Scholar award and is a research member of the Mays Cancer Center, which houses UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center, one of only four National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Centers in Texas. In 2019, he was recognized by the Mays Cancer Center for his research on endocrine resistance and breast cancer.
The focus of Dr. Liu’s research is to address key challenges related to breast cancer growth and progression. His ultimate goal is to develop innovative targeted therapies that can revolutionize treatment regimens and reduce the mortality associated with the disease. He believes that the scientific discoveries from his project have the potential to be applied to other research fields and offer valuable insights into treatment approaches for different types of cancers through enhancer interventions.
