Dexter Fowler, the former Major League Baseball player, recently graduated from Penn State with a bachelor of science degree in organizational and professional communication. Fowler, who won a World Series with the Chicago Cubs during his 14-year career, fulfilled a promise he made to his parents by returning to school. His first professional contract included a clause that paid for his college education, which led to his decision to pursue his degree.
During the commencement ceremonies at Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center, Fowler served as a student marshal. He completed his degree through Penn State’s World Campus, choosing the online program because it aligned with his new career pursuits. Fowler, who is now a sports broadcaster and has started production and management companies to create content for athletes and entertainers, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to return to school and earn his degree.
Fowler played for five teams over his 14 Major League seasons, including the Colorado Rockies, Houston Astros, St. Louis Cardinals, and Los Angeles Angels, in addition to the Chicago Cubs. His impressive career highlights include leading off Game 7 of the 2016 World Series with a home run, ultimately helping the Cubs win their first title since 1908. Fowler retired from baseball in 2023 after a successful and distinguished career.
