Local sports moments from the past: A trip down memory lane

On Saturday night, the Binghamton Devils emerged victorious over the Belleville Senators in a thrilling game at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena. The final score was 3-1 in favor of the Devils, as they battled it out for supremacy on the ice.

Meanwhile, in another exciting sporting event, Union-Endicott High School graduate Arthur Jones won New York State’s Junior Wrestling Championships’ 275-pound title. In the final match, Jones pinned Justin Tougas, making it his fifth pin in as many bouts that weekend. This victory added to Jones’ impressive athletic achievements, which include winning a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013 and being part of a remarkable athletic family that also includes his older brother UFC star Jon Jones and NFL standout Chandler Jones.

As for hockey, the Binghamton Senators also had a memorable moment during their Eastern Conference semifinals series against Bridgeport last season. In Game 6 of the series, the Senators emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Bridgeport. Goalie Ray Emery played a crucial role in shutting down Bridgeport’s offense, making 60 of 61 shots in the final two games of the series. Coach John Paddock praised Emery as a top young goalie and a huge difference-maker for their team.
