Devastating Tornado Rips Through Chile, Destroying Homes and Leaving Communities Isolated

Relentless rains in Chile cause tornado to destroy 11 homes

On Tuesday, a small tornado tore through central and southern Chile, leaving at least 11 homes destroyed and more than 20 people isolated. The Bío Bío region was severely affected by intense storms and winds, with the main damage occurring there. The tornado, classified as an EF-0 with winds between 105 and 137 kilometers per hour, caused devastation to residences and knocked down trees, poles, and electricity cables, resulting in power outages.

According to the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred), 24 people remained isolated in Bío Bío, and alerts were issued for new weather phenomena in various areas of the country. Rains have been falling continuously in Chile, causing concern among the population about the risk of new catastrophes. Fabiola Martínez, a resident whose home was damaged by the tornado, emphasized the urgent need for help from the municipality due to upcoming rains.

President Gabriel Boric visited the region to assess the damage caused by the recent storms, which led to one death, four injuries, and thousands of people affected. Bío Bío has been on red alert for meteorological events since June 11
