Detroit Police Department Takes a Stand for Men’s Mental Health: A Holistic Approach to Wellness

Detroit Police Department joins efforts to increase awareness of men’s mental health

The Detroit Police Department is dedicated to raising awareness about men’s mental health throughout the month of June. This initiative aims to help men understand and address their mental health challenges, as well as develop coping mechanisms. Men’s wellness is often overlooked, but with the support of Detroit police Chief James White, the department is working to change this narrative by encouraging men to seek help when needed.

Chief White emphasizes the importance of addressing mental health issues such as anxiety and depression that many men may struggle with. To provide resources and support for men facing mental health difficulties, the Men’s Wellness Matters event has returned for its second year. The event includes a wide range of wellness services, from massages to eye exams, to show men that they are not alone in their struggles and that it’s okay to ask for help.

Corporal M.J. Harris highlights the holistic approach to wellness at the event, including physical and mental health services. Chief White, with his background in mental health, is working tirelessly to expand mental health resources both within the city and state. In addition, the department has introduced a crisis intervention team that will respond effectively to any mental health incidents that may arise.

The goal of the Men’s Wellness Matters event is clear: save lives and improve the quality of life for men in the community. Chief White stresses the importance of prioritizing mental health as part of overall well-being. The success of last year’s event indicates plans for future iterations in 2025, with a continued commitment to offering free services to all participants.

Overall, this initiative by the Detroit Police Department is commendable as it aims at providing much-needed support and resources for men struggling with their mental health challenges while also promoting a holistic approach towards wellness which includes physical and mental health services.
