Detroit Launches Survey to Address Mental Health Crisis: Protect Your Crown Campaign

Detroit introduces mental health survey to assess residents’ needs

The Biden administration is expanding community mental health and addiction centers in response to the mental health crisis in the United States. In Detroit, city officials have launched a unique survey of residents’ mental health needs known as the “Protect Your Crown” campaign. The goal is to engage 5,000 participants in the survey, which is brief and anonymous.

Detroit City Council President Pro Tem James Tate is leading the initiative, emphasizing the importance of understanding the specific concerns of residents and identifying effective strategies to address those needs. Tate noted that there has been a significant increase in suicide crisis calls in recent months, with over 13,000 calls made. He also highlighted that before the pandemic, over 20% of students in Detroit schools had contemplated suicide. Additionally, Detroit Police have received numerous calls from adults facing similar challenges.

For individuals struggling or in crisis, resources like the 988 Lifeline are available for free support. Through calling or texting 9-8-8, individuals can seek help and assistance.
