Defensive Powerhouse Takkarist McKinley Joins Jets to Strengthen Their Already Impressive Defensive Front

Jets secure edge rusher Takkarist McKinley following successful minicamp tryout

Takkarist McKinley, a defensive end/outside linebacker, made a lasting impression on the Jets during his tryout. The team has since decided to sign him to their roster in order to strengthen their already formidable defensive front. Despite facing setbacks early in his career with injuries to his groin and shoulder, McKinley’s first two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons saw him record an impressive 13.0 sacks.

Following stints with the Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Rams, McKinley joined the Dallas Cowboys practice squad in late 2022 but did not see any game action before being released in June 2023. However, his presence in training camp could provide a valuable boost to the team, especially given that Haason Reddick is currently holding out for a new contract. McKinley will have the opportunity to learn from and play alongside veterans Jermaine Johnson and Will McDonald during his time with the Jets.

Throughout his career, McKinley has recorded an impressive 20.0 sacks and 25 tackles for loss in just 64 games. Although he has faced injury struggles in the past, the Jets remain optimistic that McKinley can make a positive impact and contribute significantly to the team’s success on defense.
