Defending Azam Khan: Pakistan’s T20 World Cup Captain Stands Up for Embattled Player

Controversy Erupts in Pakistan Camp Before T20 World Cup as Babar Azam Allegedly Body-Shames Azam Khan in Viral Video

The 2024 T20 World Cup is fast approaching, with Pakistan’s cricket team once again in the spotlight. After finishing as runners-up in the 2022 edition, the team has been under intense scrutiny for their upcoming tournament. While their performance at the ODI World Cup last year was not as successful, Pakistan has made some changes to their squad and leadership.

However, criticism has been directed towards Pakistan’s squad selection for the upcoming tournament, particularly towards Azam Khan. Former captain Shahid Afridi even expressed concerns about Khan’s fitness levels. A viral video of the team training together has been circulating among Pakistani cricket fans, with speculation that Babar Azam may have used a derogatory term in reference to Khan’s weight.

Despite facing criticism for his poor performance in recent T20I series against England, where he scored only 11 runs and had questionable glove-work, Azam Khan has been defended by Pakistan captain Babar Azam. Babar emphasized the importance of supporting all selected players ahead of the tournament and urged fans to back them despite backlash from some quarters.
