Defenders Shine: Jones and Vlasic Lead U.S. to Second Place in World Championships, While Mrazek and Kurashev Pace Czechia and Switzerland

During the World Championships in Ostrava, Blackhawks defensemen Seth Jones and Alex Vlasic were key players for the U.S. squad, playing in all seven games. Jones, who was an alternate captain, averaged 21:09 in ice time per game and tallied five assists, tied for the most among defensemen. Vlasic, in his first appearance at the World Championships, averaged 14:11 of ice time per game and contributed two assists. The U.S. team finished with a record of 5-1-0-1 and placed second in Group B.

For Czechia, Petr Mrazek played two games in the preliminary round, earning a shutout victory in a 4-0 win over Austria on May 17. He also helped lead Czechia to a 6-3 win over Norway on May 11. Czechia finished third in Group A.

Swiss forward Philipp Kurashev was a consistent presence for Switzerland in all seven games of the tournament. He posted two assists and averaged 13:34 of ice time per game. Switzerland finished second in Group A during the preliminary round.
