Defenders of Wildlife Endorses USFWS’ Proposed Rule for National Wildlife Refuge System Environmental Health and Diversity

In preparation for an upcoming hearing by the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water, Wildlife and Fisheries, Defenders of Wildlife has declared its support for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s proposed rule concerning the maintenance of the National Wildlife Refuge System’s Biological Integrity, Diversity and Environmental Health (BIDEH). Desiree Sorenson-Groves, vice president of land and habitat conservation for Defenders of Wildlife, highlighted the importance of the National Wildlife Refuge System in protecting endangered species and providing enjoyment for millions of Americans annually.

The proposed BIDEH rule and updated policy would empower the Fish and Wildlife Service to develop strategies to adapt to climate change on wildlife refuges that are already being impacted by environmental changes. Defenders of Wildlife is a nonprofit organization that has been advocating for the protection of all native animals and plants in their natural habitats for 75 years.
