Defender Marc Roberts Returns to Former Club Barnsley on Two-Year Deal: A Nostalgic and Positive Return

Roberts returns to Barnsley after departing from Blues

In July 2017, Marc Roberts left his hometown club, Birmingham City, to join Barnsley in the Championship. Seven seasons later, he is returning to the League One team on a two-year deal after being released by Birmingham City. The 33-year-old defender made 186 league appearances in seven seasons with Birmingham City before becoming a free agent earlier this summer.

Roberts expressed his excitement about returning to Barnsley, calling his previous time with the club “class” and “the best part of my career really.” He is the second member of Barnsley’s promotion-winning side from eight years ago to re-join the League One team this summer, following midfielder Conor Hourihane, who signed a player-coach deal last month. It seems like a nostalgic and positive return to familiar ground for Roberts, who will bring his experience and skills back to the club where he previously found success.
