Deebo Samuel Committed to 49ers, but Uncertain Future Looms: Navigating Trade Rumors and Long-Term Contract Discussions

Deebo Samuel puts trade rumors behind him

In 2022, Deebo Samuel signed a contract extension that runs through 2025 and includes $41 million in guarantees. However, the contract allows the 49ers to move on after 2024, leaving Samuel’s future uncertain. Despite this, Samuel is committed to the team and is focused on the current year.

Before the 2024 draft, trade rumors surrounding Samuel’s name circulated. However, General Manager John Lynch stated that the team was not interested in trading Samuel or Brandon Aiyuk. The 49ers are currently working on a long-term deal for Aiyuk, which may mean they cannot afford to keep Samuel beyond the current season. This may explain why the team selected Ricky Pearsall in the draft.

Aiyuk had an impressive season in 2023, earning second-team All-Pro honors with 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns. Samuel, a former first-team All-Pro, had a solid season with 1,117 scrimmage yards and 12 total touchdowns. Despite his own success, Samuel has shown support for Aiyuk, who skipped mandatory minicamp.

Samuel understands that negotiations can take time and hopes Aiyuk gets what he deserves. Communication between Aiyuk’s agent and the team continues as they work towards a resolution. Samuel remains focused on improving and moving past any distractions as he looks forward to his future with the team.
