Deadly West Nile Fever On The Rise in Israel: 17 Hospitalized, Precautions Needed

19 Cases of West Nile Fever Detected in Israel Since May Started.

Since the start of May, 19 cases of West Nile fever have been identified in Israel, with 17 people hospitalized, three of whom are on mechanical ventilation. This disease poses a significant risk to older adults and those with weakened immune systems. All sick individuals are residents of the central region of the country.

The Ministry of Health advises people to use various accessories to repel mosquitoes and anti-mosquito repellents. West Nile fever has been occurring in Israel for many years, usually from June to November, but this year, the first cases were reported slightly earlier due to climate change. In most cases, patients get sick with West Nile fever unnoticed, with 80% of cases being asymptomatic. However, secondary complications may occur in some cases, especially in older individuals.

These complications can be severe and irreversible, resulting in neurological impairment and functional disability. In some cases, the disease can be fatal. It is crucial to take precautions against mosquito bites to prevent the spread of this deadly disease.
