State Officials Visit New Cumberland for Small Business Week

As Small Business Week in Pennsylvania approaches from April 28 to May 4, officials from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) took a tour of downtown New Cumberland to promote shopping at main street businesses. The tour included Secretary Rick Siger, Mayor Joan Erney, and other local officials who visited several businesses in the West Shore borough such as the West Shore Theater, Hanna’s Ice Cream, Oxford Hall Celtic Gift Shop and Cafe, Semoff’s Barber Shop, and iDesign Plastics.

Mayor Erney expressed her gratitude for the administration’s focus on small businesses and highlighted the importance of a vibrant and diverse business community in New Cumberland. Meanwhile, President Don Kibler of the New Cumberland Borough Council emphasized the support that the town has received from DCED in recent years and its impact on the community.

The $25 million increase in the Main Street Matters program proposed by Governor Josh Shapiro for 2024-25 is expected to benefit commercial corridors across Pennsylvania. In addition to New Cumberland, state officials plan to visit other counties such as Northampton, Venango, Delaware, Luzerne, and Somerset during Small Business Week. Secretary Siger’s tour showcased New Cumberland’s commitment to supporting small businesses and improving the community.
