The Dali, which had been trapped under the wreckage of a bridge in Baltimore for two months, finally began its journey out of the city. After being docked at Seagirt Marine Terminal for another month, the massive ship made its way through the Fort McHenry Channel, passing below where the Ley Bridge once stood. A crowd of onlookers gathered at Sandy Point State Park to witness the ship’s passage, with many expressing their awe at its size. Stephen Swann from Davidsonville, who had set up camp at the park in order to secure a front row seat after hearing about the Dali’s voyage on the news, was among those in attendance.
