Dave Portnoy’s Sports Betting Streak Comes to a Close: $200,000 Bet on the Philadelphia Phillies to Win the 2024 World Series

Dave Portnoy places a bet on the Philadelphia Phillies to win the World Series

Dave Portnoy’s sports betting hot streak may have ended, but that didn’t stop the Barstool founder from getting back into the action. On Tuesday, he placed a $200,000 bet on the Philadelphia Phillies to win the 2024 World Series for a potential profit of $1.2 million. This came after losing $70,000 on a bet on the Edmonton Oilers to win the Stanley Cup.

Portnoy took to Twitter after the Oilers’ loss, acknowledging the end of his streak and expressing his appreciation for their efforts. He mentioned being glad that his friend @elio82 won and emphasized that all good things must come to an end, but now it’s time to start a new streak.

This Phillies bet is just one of many successful wagers Portnoy has made this year, claiming to have won approximately $7 million on various bets, including wins on Michigan in college basketball, Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl LIV, Geno Smith at the NFL Draft, UConn in the national championship in men’s basketball and Scottie Scheffler at The Masters golf tournament.

In early June, Portnoy may have jinxed himself a bit by predicting championship wins for the Celtics and Oilers before either series began. He shared his bets on X and mentioned the potential financial gains if both teams won, highlighting the possibility of having a remarkable run in 2024.
