Data Breach Exposes FPA Health Information: What Patients Need to Know

Data breach impacts health data of Florida Pediatric Associates

Florida Pediatric Associates (FPA) recently announced that a data breach at Bowden Barlow Law may have exposed FPA health information. On December 27, 2023, Bowden Barlow notified FPA of a potential data security incident that may have resulted in unauthorized access to certain patient data. At the time, the extent of the impact on FPA data was unknown. After conducting an investigation, FPA identified that some patient and guarantor information may have been compromised as a result of the incident on February 9, 2024.

Fortunately, no FPA systems were affected by the breach, as it was contained within Bowden Barlow’s environment. On March 28, 2024, FPA reached out to potentially affected individuals to inform them of the breach and provide resources to help them navigate the situation. The information that may have been accessed without authorization includes names, dates of birth, account numbers, Social Security numbers, health insurance information, claims information, and treatment details.

Florida Pediatric Associates (FPA) is taking steps to enhance its data security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The organization has already implemented additional security protocols and is working closely with law enforcement to investigate the breach further. FPA encourages all patients who believe they may have been affected by this incident to contact their healthcare provider for further assistance and guidance on protecting their personal information.
