During the Germany-Denmark match in the 1/8 round of Euro 2024, a man was arrested by police after climbing onto the roof of the Westfalen Stadium in Dortmund. The man, wearing a mask, told police he wanted to take beautiful photos during the game. Despite initial reports suggesting he had a gun, police denied this claim and found a camera in his backpack.
The security forces used drones and helicopters to monitor the situation and ensure everyone’s safety. The man followed police instructions and returned to the walkway under the stadium roof where he was arrested. Local authorities have charged him with illegal entry and released him on bail while an investigation continues. It has been revealed that this is not the first time the man has climbed high-rise buildings in Germany without detection.
German police are now planning to discuss with UEFA, the organizer of Euro 2024, how the man was able to enter the stadium and reach the roof area undetected. The match between Germany and Denmark was delayed for 25 minutes due to a thunderstorm in the area. In spite of this security incident, Germany won 2-0 and advanced to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024.
