Team Czechia Wins Gold Medal at 2024 IIHF World Championship with Michal Kempny

The Czech Republic recently emerged victorious in the 2024 IIHF World Championship with a gold medal over Switzerland. Michal Kempny played a key role in their success, playing 20:21 minutes of ice time during the championship game and earning a shutout with Lukas Dostal. Kempny was also the highest ice time player for Czech skaters throughout the tournament, averaging 21:18 minutes per game.

Kempny notched three assists and had a plus-minus rating of plus-9, making him stand out among his teammates. After the game, he posed for photos with his new gold medal and wife. He is no stranger to success on the international stage, having represented Czechia in multiple World Championships, including the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and 2010 World Junior Championship. This is his first gold medal at that level.

Radko Gudas and Tomas Kundratek also secured gold medals for their respective countries, with Gudas expressing great joy post-game about playing in front of a home crowd and receiving support from fans. This marks Czechia’s first medal at the World Championship since winning bronze in 2022, where Kempny was also a part of the team. In earlier games on Sunday, Team Sweden secured bronze by defeating Canada with a score of 4-2.
