Cyberattack Shuts Down Car Dealership Systems Nationwide, Including Plaza Ford in Bel Air

A major cyberattack has hit car dealerships across the nation, including one in the Baltimore area. CDK Global, a software company that provides auto dealerships with tools for managing sales and services, was hacked, leading to a shutdown of most of its systems. This has affected around 15,000 car dealerships and prevented them from making sales.

Plaza Ford in Bel Air is among the dealerships affected by the cyberattack. The manager at Plaza Ford mentioned that they were unable to make sales or conduct normal business for two days because of the attack. The computer system had to be shut down, leading to a backlog of paperwork. CDK Global tools are used for managing payroll, inventory, and office operations. Although some of CDK Global’s systems were back up and running on Wednesday afternoon, Plaza Ford was still offline due to a second attack.

No timeline was given for when operations would be back to normal, leading to uncertainty among the dealerships and consumers in Maryland and across the country. The perpetrators of the cyberattack remain unknown, and CDK Global plans to keep dealerships updated on their efforts to fix the software. This means that the car buying process for consumers could be stalled until the situation is resolved.

Car dealerships are vital businesses that provide essential services to consumers looking to purchase vehicles. However, this cyberattack has disrupted their operations and caused inconvenience for customers who want to buy cars. It is important that CDK Global takes swift action to resolve this issue and ensure that its software is secure from future attacks.

The incident also serves as a reminder of how vulnerable businesses are to cyber threats. Cybersecurity measures must be put in place by companies like CDK Global to protect their systems from hackers who seek to disrupt their operations or steal sensitive data.

In conclusion, car dealerships across the nation have been affected by a major cyberattack that impacted their systems. CDK Global was hacked, leading to a temporary halt in services for most of its systems. Plaza Ford in Bel Air was one such dealership that was affected by the attack
