Curious young minds shine at St. Rose of Lima School’s Kindergarten Science Fair

Annual Kindergarten Science Fair held by St Rose

St. Rose of Lima School’s kindergarten students showcased their scientific creativity at the annual Kindergarten Science Fair on May 30. Hosted by teacher Donna Rahtelli in her classroom, the event was a testament to the school’s innovative science program, funded by a Foundations in Education grant received a few years ago.

Family and friends gathered to witness the excitement of the fair as kindergartners stood proudly by their experiments, ready to explain their process to all who came to see them. The room was filled with eager young scientists, each one eager to share their discoveries with others.

During the event, students like Giovanni Grates presented an experiment on static electricity, demonstrating how a balloon could create a static shock and separate pepper from salt in a mixture of the two seasonings. Harper Deblasio conducted an experiment with a cloud in a bottle, adding rubbing alcohol to an empty bottle and coating its inside with the alcohol before pumping air into it and watching as a cloud formed within it when the air was released.

Amelia Phillips took her project on moon phases one step further by using cream filling from two sandwich cookies to represent the different phases of the moon. She decorated her poster with astronaut stickers and a large moon design to enhance her presentation.

The Kindergarten Science Fair at St. Rose of Lima School provided an engaging opportunity for students to explore scientific concepts in hands-on experiments that sparked their imaginations and encouraged their curiosity about the world around them.
