Curiosity’s Persistence on Mars: Two-Sol Plan for Studying Garden City Veins and Environmental Conditions

Sols 935-936: Further Contact Science Investigations in Garden City

Curiosity’s two-sol plan for today is similar to what was originally scheduled for the weekend. The rover will continue to study the dark and light sections of the veins at “Garden City.” This will involve using the MAHLI and APXS instruments on the veins, as well as conducting ChemCam and Mastcam observations to analyze potential variations in chemistry. In addition to these scientific tasks, Curiosity will also carry out environmental monitoring activities to track atmospheric composition, opacity, and look for signs of dust devils.

While there were some setbacks with the weekend plan, the initial images received from the site have revealed that the outcrop is a complex and intriguing area that warrants further investigation. Despite these challenges, the team remains optimistic about the potential discoveries that lie ahead as Curiosity continues its exploration of Mars.
