Cubs Reunite with Beloved Infielder David Bote, Who Returns to the Big Leagues After Five Years Away

The Cubs welcome back a familiar household name to Chicago

David Bote is returning to the big leagues for the first time since late 2012. The Cubs made a roster move ahead of Sunday’s game against the Reds, moving Adbert Alzolay to the 60-day IL to create room for Bote on the 40-man roster. Nick Madrigal was also optioned to Triple-A Iowa to make room for Bote.

Bote is a familiar name for Cubs fans, having been with the organization since he was drafted in the 18th round of the 2012 draft. Over the past decade, he has played 384 games in the majors and 781 contests in the minors. He is best known for hitting an ultimate grand slam in 2018 at Wrigley Field, when the Cubs were trailing 3-0 against the Nationals.

Bote was a valuable player for the Cubs teams from 2018 to 2021, stepping in for injured players and earning a regular role with the team in 2019. He signed an extension with the Cubs in spring of 2019, keeping him under contract through until after his fifth year with the team. In recent years, however, multiple shoulder injuries have sidelined him from playing. Despite this setback, Bote has continued to showcase his talent this season at Triple-A Iowa where he hit .259/.342/.546 with seven homers and fifteen RBI in just twenty-eight games.

Fans are sure to be happy about David Bote’s return to Chicago as he is widely loved by supporters of The Northside Boys
