Crystal Palace’s Dougie Freedman Stays Put Despite Newcastle Interest Amidst Successful Season

Freedman is poised to remain at Palace

Crystal Palace’s sporting director Dougie Freedman has been rumored to be staying with the club despite interest from Newcastle. Freedman, who previously managed the Eagles, caught the eye of Newcastle after their sporting director Dan Ashworth was put on gardening leave in anticipation of a move to Manchester United.

Under Freedman’s guidance, Palace has earned a reputation for being savvy operators in the transfer market, identifying players with potential and providing them with the opportunity to shine. The club has seen success with four of their players being included in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 training squad – Eze, Guehi, Wharton, and Henderson.

Freedman has played a key role in recruiting top players such as Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi, Adam Wharton, and Dean Henderson. The club has set a high price tag of at least £60m for potential bids for Eze or Olise. Despite this, Palace had a successful season finishing 10th in the Premier League with a club-record 49 points.
