Cricket World Cup Kicks Off on Long Island

The T20 Cricket World Cup officially begins on Long Island with matches set to take place at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. Several streets in the area were closed at 6:30 a.m., and are expected to reopen after 6 p.m. Those looking for an alternative route may want to consider using Hempstead Turnpike.

The first match scheduled is between Sri Lanka and South Africa. In response to terror threats against the upcoming match between India and Pakistan, police have implemented extra safety precautions. Metal detectors will be stationed at the park entrance, and a strict no-bag policy and no-fly zone will be enforced.

Meanwhile, two NYPD officers were injured during a shootout with a suspect in Queens. Phil Taitt and Raegen Medgie report on the officers’ conditions from the scene.
