Cricket enthusiasts flocked to Eisenhower Park in Nassau County on Saturday, eagerly anticipating the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup match. The excitement was palpable as fans from all over Long Island gathered to witness history in the making.
For many residents, such as Zakaria Masud of Smithtown, watching a cricket World Cup match in the USA, and in New York, was a dream come true. Masud expressed his joy at being able to experience this momentous occasion with friends and family.
Nassau County residents who had immigrated to the United States decades ago were also thrilled to be able to watch cricket in person for the first time in years. Aurin Chakraborty from Port Jefferson described the experience as “an amazing feeling” that was “out of this world.”
Fans traveled from all over the world to be part of this historic event, including Karan Nalmalhodra from India. Nalmalhodra marveled at the quick construction of the cricket stadium in just three months, calling it “unbelievable.”
The test match between India and Bangladesh on Saturday served as a great experience for fans, players, and law enforcement alike. Nassau police reported that the day went smoothly and allowed them to make necessary security changes in preparation for the first official match scheduled for Monday.
