West Indies confirm T20 World Cup squad, veteran player excluded

Daren Sammy, the head coach of the squad, has announced the names of five reserve players who will accompany the team for the upcoming competition. These players are Kyle Mayers, Matthew Forde, Fabian Allen, Hayden Walsh, and Andre Fletcher. Sammy expressed his confidence in their abilities to fit seamlessly into the team if needed.

The coach praised the depth and quality of talent in the squad, stating that each of these reserve players is an A-class talent who has proven themselves in various formats of the game. He emphasized that they are fully capable of stepping in and contributing to the team’s success when called upon.

The squad itself includes Rovman Powell as captain and Alzarri Joseph as vice-captain. Other players in the squad include Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Obed McCoy, Gudakesh Motie, Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Sherfane Rutherford, and Romario Shepherd. The team is rounded out by Kyle Mayers and Matthew Forde as reserve players.

Sammy also highlighted that he was impressed with their ability to perform well under pressure situations and have a good work ethic on field.

“These guys are all very talented,” said Sammy during a press conference earlier this week. “They’re all very good at what they do and have proven themselves at different levels of cricket.”

“We have a lot of depth in our squad,” added Sammy. “We know that we can rely on our reserve players if needed.”
