Creativity Unleashed: How Rama Aditia Adikara and Faisal “Aal” Rusdi Inspire and Empower the Disabled Community through Art

British Council shifts focus to ASEAN creative economy – Community involvement

Rama Aditia Adikara, a writer with visual impairment, is not limited by his condition. Instead, he views it as an inspiration for his creativity. He describes himself as a “jungle of ideas and imagination,” with novels like Mata Kedua (Second Eye) and Cukup Gue Aja (It Stops with Me) that have garnered him a following among the visually impaired community in Indonesia. Through his work, he aims to be a guiding light for others and educate the public about disabilities.

Faisal “Aal” Rusdi is another inspiring artist who creates beautiful landscapes and still lifes filled with flowers and plants despite having cerebral palsy. Blogger Karina Eka Dewi Salim described Aal’s process of dipping his brush onto the palette and painting scenes of sunsets or full moons on canvas. Although she may not be an art expert, Karina found Aal’s work soothing and calming.

Both Rama and Aal champion inclusivity and representation for people with disabilities through their art. They serve as examples of how creativity and talent can flourish regardless of physical limitations. Their work showcases their individual talents while also highlighting the importance of diversity and representation in the arts.
