Countdown to SpaceX’s Monumental Launch: Assessing the Environmental Impact and Building New Infrastructure on Florida’s Space Coast

Residents and spectators on Florida’s Space Coast are eagerly awaiting the launch of SpaceX’s Starship, the world’s largest rocket. While the company aims to make Cape Canaveral its operational home, it first needs to obtain a license from the Federal Aviation Administration.

The FAA will assess the impact of the powerful rocket on the environment, evaluating factors such as air quality, coastal resources, wildlife, water quality, climate, solid waste, and pollution prevention. Residents like Debby Hancock are excited about the project but also want to ensure that environmental considerations are taken into account.

To accommodate the massive rocket, two launch sites will be constructed or updated at Kennedy Space Center or Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The rocket is expected to stand over 400 feet tall with a heavy booster supporting the Starship.

Currently undergoing testing in Boca Chica, Texas, the Starship will eventually be moved to Florida’s Space Coast once it is ready for its mission. With its potential to revolutionize space exploration and travel, residents and visitors alike are eagerly anticipating this historic event.
