Council House Scams and Global Life Expectancy: The Latest News

The Chief Political Correspondent of The Standard, Rachael Burford, has recently warned about a council house scam on social media. Victims have been tricked into handing over thousands of pounds to secure social housing that does not actually exist. The scammers use dubious advertisements promising cut-price properties in certain boroughs and ask people to contact them via WhatsApp. They claim to be able to move people into a home within 12 months. Once contacted and payment is made, the fraudsters offer to help with social housing applications by uploading fake documents for those who do not meet the criteria.

Meanwhile, there is a forecast that global life expectancy will increase by nearly five years by the year 2050. By 2022 to 2050, it is expected that men’s life expectancy will rise from 71.1 years to 76 years, and women’s from 76.2 years to 80.5 years. Countries with lower life expectancies currently are projected to see the largest increases according to the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021 from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.

Research suggests that children who spend excessive time on social media are more likely to vape and smoke. A study involving more than 10,000 people aged 10 to 25 from the UK Household Longitudinal Study 2015-2021 found that those who spend over seven hours a day on social media are almost eight times more likely to smoke and four times more likely to vape.
