Could Georgia’s Offseason Bring More Changes? Potential Head Coaching Opportunities for Defense Coordinators Glenn Schumann and Travaris Robinson

Georgia’s offseason in 2024 could see more changes as the Bulldogs look to replace multiple staff members. CBS Sports’ David Cobb has identified seven coordinators who could potentially transition to head coaching roles next cycle, including Georgia defensive coordinators Glenn Schumann and Travaris Robinson.

Glenn Schumann was the first staff member hired by Coach Smart after his departure from Alabama. He initially served as inside linebackers coach for three years before being promoted to co-defensive coordinator in 2019. Upon Dan Lanning’s departure to Oregon in 2022, Schumann took on the primary title of defensive coordinator. Despite receiving interest for various coaching positions, such as being favored for the Eagles’ defensive coordinator role last offseason, Schumann ultimately decided to remain with the Bulldogs.

Travaris Robinson is a relatively recent addition to the Georgia coaching staff but brings with him a strong reputation and valuable experience. Prior to joining Georgia, Robinson spent two years as the cornerbacks coach at Alabama. This offseason, Coach Smart appointed him as co-defensive coordinator. Robinson is widely regarded as one of the top recruiters in the conference, having also held coaching positions at Miami and South Carolina under Will Muschamp.

Kirby Smart has already cultivated an extensive coaching tree, with former assistants Mel Tucker, Dan Lanning, Shane Beamer, Sam Pittman, Fran Brown, and Dell McGee all securing head coaching roles after working under him. The potential for Schumann and Robinson to follow in their footsteps highlights the success of Smart’s coaching staff and shows that there are many opportunities available for coaches who work closely with him.
