Cook Children’s Faces Loss of Healthcare Contract in Texas: Families Left in Limbo as Appeal is Denied

Texas reinforces commitment to eliminate Cook Children’s health plan

In March, the state of Texas announced that it would not be renewing its Medicaid contract with Cook Children’s, a hospital that has been providing healthcare services for low-income children and pregnant women for over 20 years. This news has left many families in North Texas worried about losing their current healthcare coverage.

Cook Children’s had appealed the decision, but this appeal was recently denied. The hospital stated that they will continue to fight this decision, believing that the process has been flawed from the start. They plan to pursue all legal options, including filing an immediate appeal.

Despite the proposed changes, the new contracts will not go into effect until September 2025. This means that families who are currently enrolled in the health plan will be able to maintain their current coverage for at least another year.

Caroline Vandergriff, who joined the CBS 11 News team in September 2019, reported on this situation. She is a North Texas native and is glad to be back home reporting on local news. Families in North Texas will now have to wait until September 2025 before any changes take place in their healthcare coverage.
