Controversial Rankings: Andy Staples Places Texas Longhorns at No. 5, Sparking Debate in College Football

Andy Staples reveals his post-spring Top 25 rankings for college football

Andy Staples of On3 Sports has ranked the Texas Longhorns as the No. 5 team in college football for the upcoming season, despite being ranked lower by four other teams. Staples believes that Texas has the potential to compete for a national title and win it all at its peak, but there seems to be more faith in those four teams ahead of the Longhorns in the rankings.

Staples’ rankings have also raised some eyebrows for other teams. Some may consider Alabama, Miami, Notre Dame, and Auburn to be too high or too low. However, Ole Miss, Missouri, LSU, and Oklahoma have been ranked lower than expected by Staples. These teams have had success in recent seasons and return key players, making them clear contenders in his eyes.

The Longhorns are one of only five 2023 playoff teams that return their head coach, offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, and starting quarterback. With several multi-year starters on the offensive line, Texas has stability heading into the season. The team will kick off their season against Colorado State on ESPN on August 26th at 7 pm CT/8 pm ET/5 pm PT/6 pm MT.
